Just Coffee peoples are sporty. And we like to support some of the sporty people around us. Here are some recent stories about our own recreational activities, and others that we've sponsored and supported in our comunity.
Team JC: Bike Polo Assassins
Posted by matt at about 8am on Friday May 2, 2008On May 3rd beginning at 9:30am Just Coffee will be selling coffee at the 4th Biannual Midwest Bike Polo Champeenships in Madison at the Thunderdome (the tennis court above the little park between Mifflin and Dayton across from Breese Stevens field).
Team JC just finished 3rd in the East Coast Bike Polo Champeenship last week in DC. Notice that the trophy they won was so large that it had to be strapped on the roof of Jack Serpico's car. And no, that is not a muffler, although I can see why you might think that. Jeez.
Check it out! It is going to be a great time watching some really talented athletes! And if you have a chance, ask Heavy Kev about his run-in with Pamela Sue Anderson and George Dubya Bush at the DC Hilton.

FHAM Sponsors Bicyclist Jacinto da Costa
Posted by colleen at about 12am on Friday December 14, 2007Fundasaun Hari'i Au Metan sponsors East Timorese bicyclist Jacinto da Costa. Jacinto, considered one of the top cyclists in the country represented Timor-Leste earlier this year at the Arafura Games, a large regional sporting event, in Darwin, Australia. Even though this was his first experience traveling abroad and competing against international competitors Jacinto placed 4th in the race!

Kenneth Burns follows JC deliveries
Posted by mark the spark at about 11am on Thursday September 27, 2007Just Coffee tricycle delivery person Mark T. Spark was followed on bicycle Tuesday by Isthmus journalist Ken Burns. Mr. Burns met up with Mr. Spark at Just Coffee's facility on East Wilson Street. The trike was loaded and ready to roll. As the two rode down the bike path they engaged in easy chit chat covering topics ranging from politics, living in Chicago, cycling, and of course sports. Mr. Burns and Mr. Spark both lived in Chicago for some time, and shared some thoughts on that city. Mr. Burns moved to Madison for grad school, and ended up staying after meeting a special someone.
Deep Fair Trade Basketball Tour
Posted by matt at about 7am on Friday August 17, 2007My brother Jim (aka Juice or Baby Hook on the court) and I are both from Lexington, Kentucky. Being from Kentucky, we are basketball addicts. Even though we both grew up railing against the mainstream and taking pride in being freaks, we still could not avoid the hoops. Many a Saturday was spent counting backwards from 10 and throwing up last second circus shots to win imaginary crowns. And the crowd goes wild...
In KY basketball is a religion. No...seriously, it is a bona fide religion. And if it came down to Sunday service or the 'Cats vs. the Cards (or Carolina, or Florida, or Indiana, or K-State Tech A&M, or whoever), you can bet that the churches would be empty. Sorry God, but unless Jesus is a 6'8" power forward wearing a blue jersey and dropping 3s from NBA range, he must wait.
Team JC repeats as Midwest Bike Polo Champeeens in Chicago
Posted by admin at about 4pm on Monday May 7, 2007After letting up only two goals all tournament, Team JC (Just Coffee/Jonny Cycles/Jesus Christ/John Cougar (Mellancamp)) held on to their Midwest champion status at the bi-annual Midwest Bike-Polo Champeenships, held May 5th in Chicago. Team JC faced a bigger, faster, and generally much more handsome team from Milwaukee in the finals, but proved unstoppable, winning 3-0, 3-0.
