Kenneth Burns follows JC deliveries
Posted by mark the spark at about 11am on Thursday September 27, 2007Just Coffee tricycle delivery person Mark T. Spark was followed on bicycle Tuesday by Isthmus journalist Ken Burns. Mr. Burns met up with Mr. Spark at Just Coffee's facility on East Wilson Street. The trike was loaded and ready to roll. As the two rode down the bike path they engaged in easy chit chat covering topics ranging from politics, living in Chicago, cycling, and of course sports. Mr. Burns and Mr. Spark both lived in Chicago for some time, and shared some thoughts on that city. Mr. Burns moved to Madison for grad school, and ended up staying after meeting a special someone.
As they made deliveries to JJR Architecture, the DNR, Cafe Soleil, and Gotham Bagels, Mr. Burns jotted down notes of their conversation. Next they hit Cap Centre foods where Mr. Burns helped carry totes to stock the shelves. Mr. Burns then looked on, snapping photographs as Mr. Spark refreshed the depleted shelves. Upon leaving Mr. Burns realized that the chain on his bike had come off. After replacing his chain, they were soon racing down East Johnson on their way to Company of Thieves, the last delivery for this stretch.
Mr. Burns tried his turn on the cargo trike on the way back to the roaster. He was somewhat confounded by the tricky steering. By the time they arrived at Just Coffee, though, he had triumphed over the machine. Mr. Burns decided to excuse himself from following along for the afternoon deliveries, which turned out to be a wise decision, as he did not get completely soaked in the rain with Mr. Spark.
